Between a Rock and a Soft Place
September 25th, 2008 • Posted by Seth Gardenswartz • Permalink
I had the pleasure of spending three days at the Red Mountain Spa and Resort in Utah this week, while attending the SpaFinder learning event. Invited were top spa owners, operators and some of the sharpest people in the spa business. Over the next weeks, we will share some of the key ideas and themes discussed regarding spa products, operations, marketing and benchmarks.
As a prologue to the series, I want to make one overall observation. As the country obsesses with the economic issues confronting all of us, the smart operators are not waiting for a recovery to bail them out. They are proactively making adjustments and plans. Some are changing their compensation structures (a major issue discussed at this retreat), while others are making operational changes designed to follow customer's changing behaviors. Many are looking for innovative ways to market themselves in a cost effective manner (like Instant Gift Certificates and Dynamic Websites — at least half of the attendees were SpaBoomers!).
The lesson is clear — there will be winners in this next quarter or two and they will be the ones who are making a plan.

SpaFinder Acquires SpaWish Gift Certificate and Gift Card Business; Expands Spa Gifting Program to Include Vast Salon Market
March 11th, 2008 • Posted by Stephany Toman • Permalink
SpaFinder, through this acquisition, has officially added the vast U.S. salon industry to its spa gift program, while further expanding its reach into traditional spa retail channels.
"Spa & Salon Wish will provide a new dimension to our business with a huge upside for spas, salons and consumers." said SpaFinder, Inc. Chairman & CEO Pete Ellis. "It opens the door to us to bring thousands and thousand of salons into our gifting network while providing us with an opportunity to reach a much broader audience eager to enjoy spa and salon experiences."

Top ten ways to sell more gift certificates online: Tip #3
February 7th, 2008 • Posted by Seth Gardenswartz • Permalink
Tip #3
Sell packages or services online: Most of our top sellers sell packages or gifts for services. The top quarter of our sellers have an average a higher average sale amount, which makes perfect sense. If a (possibly male) spa gift buyer does not know what to buy they generally buy a $100 gift certificate (our average sale data supports this assertion). However, if you have a nice $129 Valentine's Day package, many buyers will jump on it-and you just raised your revenue 30% on the transaction.

SpaBoom Teams Up with SpaFinder
October 3rd, 2007 • Posted by Stephany Toman • Permalink
We are happy to announce that SpaBoom and SpaFinder are now working hand-in-hand, bringing our combined energy to the spa marketing table to create new and exciting ways to benefit our clients. SpaFinder has purchased an interest in SpaBoom, and we have agreed to share technology as well as customers as we identify new and better ways to increase your exposure (in a good way!) and help you sell more gift certificates to boot.
“Our investment in SpaBoom is part of our commitment to help our spa marketing partners succeed in an increasingly competitive marketplace,” said SpaFinder, Inc. CEO Pete Ellis. “We’re looking forward to providing spas with a new level of marketing value that’s going to immediately pay off with more customers and more profits for them.”
Bill Bice, founder and CEO of SpaBoom shares his thoughts. “Gift certificates, which typically represent between 10 and 25 percent of a spa’s total sales, are a critical source of revenues and customers for spas. This agreement will enable our shared customers to increase gift certificate sales on two powerful fronts: their own web sites and SpaFinder’s vast distribution network. It's really about creating the best of both worlds for our clients, and ultimately increasing their reach and revenues in the process.”
Ellis and Bice both anticipate a deepening partnership moving forward, leveraging the companies’ respective technological, data and marketing strengths and services to develop new solutions and ideas for the global spa industry.
Stay tuned for more announcements in the coming weeks. We are excited about what the future holds, and will share news as it develops!
In the meantime, know that all of the things you've come to expect from us at SpaBoom will continue–our great service, our love for all things 'spa', and our respect and appreciation for all of the great SpaBoomers out there who have made it possible to grow and make cool things happen in our first 3 years!
