July 22nd, 2011 • Posted by Stephany Toman • Permalink
The Joy of Spa News: The Art of a Cool Summer edition is now ready for you to customize. It is complete as is, but you are always welcome to make it yours by playing with the introduction.
Joy of Spa News: The Art of a Cool Summer will launch over a three day period, August 7th-9th, unless you've opted to change the date it goes out. Be sure to make any changes prior to that date! (And be sure to send yourself a test email after making any edits, and remember that Events that encompass the date on which your email is sent will be included in the email as well.)
Note: The new articles that accompany this edition of the Joy of Spa News will appear magically before it goes out to your clients, even if you can't see them in their entirety when you send yourself a test email. No worries, they'll be in place! We promise!
We highly recommend creating Summer events and cooling, soothing, service packages to accompany this edition of Joy of Spa News. Helping people choose a great spa gift package for the occasion provides them a perfect gift solution while increasing the average amount of the gift certificates — a win win!
Remember, the Joy of Spa News is branded with your spa's logo and when your client clicks to read more, the website is branded with your logo, too!
Not yet signed up to send a beautiful, branded newsletter to your clients on a regular basis? Now is your time to get onboard! Go to Setup, Basics to put Joy of Spa to work for your spa!

A Driven Entrepreneur
May 4th, 2010 • Posted by Spa Kat • Permalink
Nadine is a classic entrepreneur. When I met her at IECSC in New York she was so enthusiastic, she is the driven owner of C.B.N.’s Mobile Day Spa. I only spoke with her briefly, but it took very little time to see that she was insightful, decisive and really good at running her spa business.
Nadine takes advantage of every possible SpaBoom marketing tool to make her business more successful. As a result, her business is thriving. She is always willing to try, to see how a tool will improve her business processes and help increase her revenue. She is just not wired to sit back, so there is no hesitation, she brims with confidence about her spa business because she runs it so effectively and intuitively.
Nadine was an early adopter of Facebook and Twitter; she has regularly posted events, specials and inspiring information to benefit her online clients. SpaBoom’s new automated Twitter and Facebook tool allows Nadine to automatically post events quickly and efficiently, it is a huge timesaver because it streamlines the whole social media process for the spa.
C.B.N.’s Mobile Day Spa is a Joy of Spa Member, she is listed in the directory and her Mother’s Day specials are easily accessible because she knows how it can help her business. She has added the Joy of Spa badge to her website so each time a client clicks on it to purchase an Instant Gift Certificate she benefits, even if it is not to her spa!
Nadine inspires immediate trust, an obvious cornerstone for running a successful business but rare to be so apparent in a young entrepreneur. She experiences true satisfaction from being part of her spa clients' lives. To her, it is an opportunity to share in her clients' happiest moments and she derives immense satisfaction from it.
Nadine’s success has evolved from a lifetime of hard work and dedication to a dream, to own her own business. Starting in her early 20s, has owned a series of small businesses, each evolving into something bigger and ultimately it led to opening C.B.N’s Mobile Day Spa.
Nadine’s Business Strategies:
- Use every possible tool to your business’s advantage.
- Always be on the lookout for new opportunities for your spa business. Once you see an opportunity, seize it and let it grow.
- Nadine’s businesses grew by word of mouth. Be willing to get out there and promote your business, one client at a time.
- Use all your resources. SpaBoom Instant Gift Certificates have been a major part of Nadine’s business; it is useful because clients can send a gift when it is convenient for them.
- SpaBoom online booking offers a personal touch, it gives clients the control they want to book online. It is easy and fast for them and streamlines the booking process.
Nadine’s advice: Be creative; do not rest on your laurels. Once your day spa is self-sustaining you must keep going, improving and not become stale. Always be willing to take your business to the next level. Try something new or add something to the business that will differentiate your spa from the competition.

What is Social media and what can it do for you?
December 16th, 2008 • Posted by Spa Kat • Permalink
Social media is… a cacophony of different online tools designed to help people communicate and interact with each other. These tools can be used to:
- Promote your spa business.
- Create a forum for you and/or your business to interact with customers.
- Provide valuable feedback from target customers that can then be integrated into business practices.
- Create new product/service promotions to drive traffic to your spa.
That said, the vast assortment of social media outlets can be loud, overwhelming and distracting to a busy spa owner. So jump in but bring along a life preserver of basic insight into this sea of online communication.
There are great articles on the Internet that can give you a foothold in understanding how people are interacting and how other businesses are using social media as an effective marketing tool. A fantastic advertising resource, www.adage.com, collaborates with advertising experts to bring readers information on cutting-edge and traditional advertising news and information.
Start out slow, create a blog with Google's Blogger, and search for similar blogs out there and start giving your feedback. You will learn more about the social media opportunities there are for your spa. The possibilities are limitless.
In addition, start managing your online reputation by checking out review websites. Customers are already using city guides and review websites like Yelp, Epinions, Citysearch, TripAdvisor, etc. See what they are saying and look for ways to improve your business based on the feedback you receive.
A great city guide, Yelp, allows people to post reviews of spas. Yelp allows businesses to be alerted each time someone posts a review of your business. The majority of reviews are positive, word-of-mouth validation that you can’t get using traditional advertising tactics.
Check out the websites below and see if you can use them to connect with and improve your spa’s reputation with existing and potential customers:
