Referral Codes, with a limited-time twist

We hope you love our new feature to create referral codes for your clients.

Now we've added a new wrinkle to our referral code ability — "one time referrals."  This means you can send out a tweet or an email with your referral code and mention that it is only good for the first 5 takers… or 2… or one!

Used up referral code

You choose your promotion, whether it's dollar-off IGCs or percentage discount, set up your built-in limitations and a date range, if you'd like, and start promoting it like crazy!

For all the gritty details, see our help topic and let us know how you plan to use this cool feature.

This a great feature, but there is one other piece that would make it perfect. I would love to have the ability to create a special, discounted gift certificate promtion AND also be able to setup different redemption criteria for it. What I mean is this — a normal, full price gift certificate can and should be redeemed at the customers leasure, as is required by law. But a special, discounted gift certificate would work best if we were able to limit the redemption period. I believe this would be legal, since the client is receiving consideration (a special price) for the redemption limitation. For example — Let's say I do a 50% off pedicure gift certificate sale in January, when my pedicure stations are empty. I would love to be able to expire this discounted certificate by March 31st, forcing the client to use it when the salon is less busy. Currently a client purchasing a 50% pedicure gift certificate in January can redeem the certificate in July, when I have plenty of pedicure business. My suggestion is that you allow us to set a different expiration date for our gift certificate promotions.

  2. Great idea Dennis! Have often thought of this for the same reasons.

Thanks Gloria – I do this all the time in the salon, and would love to extend this kind of special to my website.

    Hi Dennis,

Excellent idea. We're researching the legal side with the new Credit CARD act to see what will now be allowed.

Another approach that SpaBoom supports right now is BOGOs. For example, you could do a free pedicure with any $50+ GC, and the pedicure can have any terms and expiration you'd like on it.

    Thanks,
    Bill

Hi Bill. I would assume that as long at the actual, paid value of the certificate was honored according to law, there would be no issue. For example if I sold a $60 Pedicure certificate for $30 with a short expiration date AND I'm willing to redeem the certificate for $30 after my promotion ends, I would be within my rights.

I have done the BOGO thing, but it's not as clean as offering a special on a particular service.
