Can Spa Memberships Work for Your Business?

January 20th, 2010 • Posted by Spa Kat • Permalink

sbblogmembership.jpgAccording to a current spa industry research report, over 60% of the avid spa respondents went to a spa at least 3 times a year and more than 9% went 10+ times per year.

Read the report.

It begs the question, could a spa membership program entice more avid spa goers to your business over the course of a year?

We all know that repeat customers are extremely valuable and tend to spend more at each spa visit. A Spa membership program ensures that high value clients visit the spa every month and creates new opportunities for you to build revenue.

There are definite advantages to spa membership programs but I am curious what local spas think, so leave a comment and let us know what your experience has taught you.

I started a membership program at my spa probably in 2006. I have 140 members that I have on eft payments. I use a fitness membership company to collect payments and handle collections or defaults. This has been a true success for my spa. I am able to keep my technicians busy and pay my monthly bills. Slow months I still receive membership payments.

Since Massage Envy has opened its doors about 3 miles from my facility, I have been contemplating having a membership program. I don't really know much about this type of program. Any suggestions?

I have been selling packages of 3, 6, 9 & 12 massages for a discounted amount for clients that come on a regular basis. I have them pre-pay the amount of massages they want, I keep a log sheet of their visits and they love it! I get lots of repeat business and I lock them in to coming into my business. Works great.
