Gratuity on Instant Gift Certificates
March 8th, 2009 • Posted by Bill Bice • Permalink
Have you always wanted to accept gratuities on your Instant Gift Certificates? Now you can!
Just go to Basics under Instant Gift Certificates and turn on "Gratuity on services". You can also select a default for your clients, like 15%.
A few notes:
- Gratuities only apply to service GCs.
- When running specials, gratuities are calculated on the original value of the service.
- On the GCs tab,
a new icon appears next to the balance for GCs that include a gratuity. Click on the GC to see the full detail. - "Gratuity included" is printed on the GC at the end of the services.
- No SpaBoom commissions are charged on gratuities.
Go to SpaDemo to see gratuities in action.

That's great. I've created separate services with 18% gratuity included so this makes it a lot easier. All too often, clients don't even think about giving gratuities and then the technicians are losing much counted on money.
Thank you so much.

Nancy,
Thank you! We've been asked for gratuities by many clients, and I'm so happy that we can now offer them. It makes life so much simpler for your customers and their gift recipients.
(As an aside, I corrected the logo on your website — the sizing was strange, so it should be a bit better now.)
Take care.

At Waterfalls, we already added the gratuity into all our prices and state it on all the descriptions so that everyone (giver and receiver and us) are aware of the tip. No one complains and everyone is happy. If someone doesnt want to purchase a service that way, they have the choice to purchase a straight dollar amount. Make it easier on yourself and your client and everyone wins!

Can the Client select the amount of the gratuity? It seems presumptuous to choose the amount for them. Why not have a drop down box with the %'s (which is how I thought it would be set up if I selected yes but not a %) or a write in dollar amount. Especially since our policy on gratuities is "always appreciated never expected."

Hi Nicole,
If you select a default in Basics, that is just a starting point for clients. They're free to select None, 10%, 15%, 18% or 20% for the gratuity.
Thanks, Bill
