Indeed, Florida law has changed. The Governor of Florida signed into law Senate Bill 1638 on June 28th, 2007. See the Governor of Florida's summary of 2007 Legislative Action.

Our presentation was based on research for June 1st, and did mention that Florida law could change. (There are a few other states about to change, including Illinois).

To summarize for our Florida readers: As of 6/28/2007, you can no longer have an expiration date on your Gift Certificates. Happily, Florida Gift Certificates are exempt from the State's abandonment requirements (subject to some limitations that generally aren't applicable to SpaBoom clients -- but please check the text of the law to verify and/or talk to a qualified CPA or legal counsel in your State). I have updated our presentation to account for this new change to Florida law.

Thank you to everyone who attended our lecture are the 2007 Harms User Group Conference!

In regards to the link "What winners are doing" and Florida... your information is off. Florida DID require unclaimed property to be turned in, I dont know the time frame, but if it is abadoned, it belongs to the state. This went out the window on July 1, when the gift card law came into effect, not, there is no expiration allowed, and no abandonment.

Hi Everyone,

I was overwhelmed at the number of classes and did not attend yours, although I needed to. Could you get and send me a copy or synopsis of that class, hints and tips? It would be sooo helpful. I am working right now on the intergration in our software. Thank you all so much.
