Leaving Las Vegas-a virtual postcard from the International Esthetics, Cosmetics & Spa Conference

Leaving Las Vegas

For those of you who have never been, the IECSC show is three days of classes, demonstrations and exhibits covering topics and products ranging from acne treatments to disposable slippers. For hearty souls, there was even a live Brazilian waxing display (which was also available as a fee based show outside the Convention Center on the strip).

As for SpaBoom, we did not have a booth at this show but attended in the following capacities; presenter, Harms Software partner and tireless researcher on behalf of our clients. In the presenter role, I gave a 20 minute PowerPoint presentation entitled “Winning Strategies with Gift Certificates,” outlining some basic online marketing information and sharing secrets from a few of our top sellers.

As for spa/salon software in general, I spent much of my time in the Harms booth listening to current and potential Millennium users as well as describing how online gifts can help pay for such a system in months. Harms has a great team and a wonderful customer base I really enjoyed getting to know everyone a little better.

In terms of research, I trudged up and down the aisles, listening and learning about trends and new developments in the spa and salon business. One of the very interesting topics that many SpaBoom users have raised is the retail sales of products. Consequently, I spent a great deal of time learning about retail spa products. We at SpaBoom believe (partially because many of you have told us so) that products represent a great opportunity to enhance gift sales, drive traffic into your stores and overall improve the bottom line in spas. In the next week or so, I will be posting additional information and, more importantly, asking for input from all of our users. Feel free to send or post information in the meantime. I am particularly interested in what kinds of products and vendors are currently carried in SpaBoom users stores as well as some detail about the number of vendors, percentage of sales represented by products and success (or not) of selling products with services. Any other observations will also be appreciated.

Please stay tuned for more info on this topic!

If your dynamic web site allowed for products sales (customized) - I would be at the front of the line to sign up! I currently offer internet sales, but would like a more robust web site.

Our product sales are about 50% of total sales. We carry Dermalogica and M'lis lines
