A Mother's Day Retrospective — Hairtage Salon & Day Spa

It's time to chat with this season's top performing spas to find out just what they did to sell so many darned Instant Gift Certificates over the Mother's Day holiday.

Our first story is shared by Gail Lanier, General Manager of Hairtage Salon & Day Spa. From what I could tell by talking with Gail, they're just getting warmed up!

We've chosen to promote Hairtage in a variety of ways to our potential customers. We're located in Jacksonville, North Carolina, very close to Camp Le J'eune, a military base, which provides a nice bonus when it comes to marketing.

As far as we're concerned, we love to have SpaBoom do the heavy lifting for us. We use it every single month as we create our special packages for that month. We know that the packages sell well via Instant Gift Certificates, and that with a little additional promotion, our sales continue at a nice clip, even during slower periods.

We include fliers on which the current month's promotion is printed, in every bag that leaves our spa. We choose brightly colored paper to ensure the fliers get noticed. We also use these fliers in local restaurants. We provide our spa's gift cards to those restaurants, who then give them as employee incentives. In return, they include our fliers in any bags that leave their locations. It's a great way to give and take, and works very well for all of us.

In addition to the fliers, we pay for advertising space in the two local newspapers. We're in there 4 Sundays a month, and we talk about our current promotion as well as the Instant Gift Certificates that folks can purchase. We also request space in the Military Globe, Camp
Le J'eune's periodical, and those ads generate interest among the military families.

We're pleased to be able to appeal to our locals, the military families on base, and at the same time promote our website's Instant Gift Certificates. We feel like it all ties together nicely for our customers as well as for our business growth.

    Hello Gail,

Thank you for that message. I was curious about your monthly specials and how they relate to instant Gift Certificates. If you promote monthly specials for Gift Cert. purchases, do you have expiration dates, for instance only good that particular month. And if so, how do you set it up on SpaBoom? Any opinions from owners or managers would be appreciated.

I'd like to see an anonymous comparative analysis of sales with start date, Spa Emergency GC's, GC's, etc. data points for my busines and the mean, median and mode for all users and users starting in the same month plus a variable input for dates.
