Wow! SpaBoomers sold over $2M in Instant Gift Certificates for the Holidays!
We last left off on the Tuesday before Christmas; as you can see in the graph above, there was another huge bump in sales at the end of the week. The Friday before Christmas was the biggest of the holiday season, pulling in 11% of holiday sales with a 54% increase over Tuesday.
More fun Instant GC holiday stats:
- 60% of holiday sales came in the week before Christmas.
- 55% of GCs were for services for an average of $110 each, while dollar amount GCs averaged $103 each.
- For service GCs, less than 10% had multiple services.
- 24% of GCs were part of buying more than one.
- 84% of GCs were printed and 16% were emailed.

Our numbers pretty much matched the graph… Friday was the biggest day. Looking at the types of gifts sold it was a combination of office gifts and shopping from the computer at work.
We were thrilled with the volume of online GC sales. We also noticed a slight drop in the number of in store GC purchases, a reduction in the number of local phone and mail GC orders, and a dramatic drop in the number of long distance phone orders.
We would be interested in a peer group study in the number of gift certificates sold. A best practices or promotions/ideas that yielded great results.
Wonderful product, this is exactly what I was expecting when we added online gift certificates to our web site last year. The product far exceeded our expectations.

The week prior to Christmas was our first week selling instant gift certificates. I was amazed at how well we did using the Instant POP display and mentioning our instant gift certificates in our eClub newsletter. We are located in Pennsylvania and we sold our first one to a customer in Canada for her sister who lives near our salon. Now that just shows how well and fast this service works. I’m already planning our Valentine’s promotions. Can’t wait to see our numbers grow. Thanks for creating a wonderful product and service. Our customers love it!

We were very happy with our first Christmas utilizing instant online gift certificates. Our total sales for gc's were up 15-1/2% and online sales constituted 22% of total gc sales. I think consistent marketing in email, radio and print ads as well as in store displays helped us achieve our goals. Very happy with product!
