Do spas take themselves too seriously?

That's the question that Peggy Wynne Borgman is asking in a recent article on SpaTrade:

Recent trends like “Zen temple” décor, meditation rooms, and calling treatments “rituals” suggest that relaxation is a quasi-religious pursuit. But a new study suggests that the spa industry may need to lighten up to become more relevant to the high-end consumer.

Do you need more fun and pleasure in your spa? It's what luxury consumers are looking for.

    This was almost exactly the topic of a talk given by the VP of Marketing for Canyon Ranch in Atlanta this past week. I think it's right on. Luxury consumers are buying an experience that's easy and hassle free more than for status.
